The weather over the next several days should definitely have us thinking spring.  In fact, you might even find yourself putting your coat away and reaching for that favorite pair of shorts, as record warm temperatures are heading our way!  Look for mostly sunny skies today, with a high temperature reaching 62 degrees. Our winds will blow from the SW at 5-15 mph, bringing a Red Flag Warning to Southern Minnesota for today, as warm dry winds combine with dry vegetation to create a high risk of grass fires.  Sunday will bring increasing clouds, with a high around 60.  Sunday night and Monday could see some moisture moving through, with somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 inch of very welcome rainfall headed our way.  However, those warm temperatures will make a return for the rest of the week, with 60's and maybe even a 70  possible as the week progresses.  After all, March is a month of transition...

Our high temperature over the past 24 hours has been 42 degrees, while the low was 13 degrees (Our actual "high" on Friday afternoon occurred around 4:00 p.m. when our temp topped out at 34 degrees.  Temperatures dropped for a few hours after that point, but began rising once again after 8:00 p.m. with the passage of a warm front).  Our peak wind gust was 14 mph from the east, which occurred around 5:00 p.m.  Current conditions this morning include a temperature of 40 degrees, SW winds at 5 mph, and a falling barometer (29.95 inches of pressure).  The river is at 6.86 feet.

Weather records on the books for today, March 10, include a high temperature of 54 degrees (1977), a low of -3 degrees (1984), and 4.2" of snow (1956).  The average temperatures today are 40 and 20 degrees.

On this date back in 1948, a late winter cold wave dropped the temperature to -44 degrees at Itasca.  In Chaska one year ago we saw a high temperature of 29 degrees and a low of 19.  Thick fog was once again reported around town.  Our snow cover measured 10 inches.  The river was 15.62 feet deep.

For those of you who enjoy following our current weather conditions via the www.backyardraingauge.com web site, I should let you know that the site is currently down for maintenance and repairs.  We hope to be back up and running again in a few days.
