The City of Chaska has announced the promotion of Matt Haefner to the Water and Sewer Superintendent position. According to a city newsletter, his official start date will be Tuesday, February 21.

The position was vacated when Dean Hylland retired at the beginning of the year after 14 years with the city.

Haefner is the city’s current assistant engineer. He has been with the city for over 10 years, beginning as the senior engineering technician and moving up to the assistant engineer.

Haefner has been in the civil engineering field for 18 years.

In accepting the Water and Sewer Superintendent position, he will be in charge of all the day to day operations of the Water and Sewer Department, including the maintenance and collection of the sewer system, as well as the treatment and distribution of water throughout the city.

Maintenance of all the water towers, pumping and lift stations, and the water treatment facility are also included in his duties.

Haefner will be in charge of planning for any expansion of the utility system into newly developed areas of the community, ensuring there is enough capacity to serve future needs. He will work extensively with reconstruction of utilities in the downtown area as part of the Street Reconstruction Program.
