It would be hard for things to go better for Brad Hand on Tuesday night.

The Florida Marlins called the Chaska High School graduate and second-round draft pick to join the major league club from the team’s Double-A affiliate in Jacksonville on Sunday.

Hand got settled in on Monday and then made a sparkling debut in the bigs on Tuesday night,

Hand pitched six innings for the Florida Marlins and giving up just one hit to the Atlanta Braves while striking out six.

The only hit Hand gave up was a solo home run to Alex Gonzalez – the only blemish on an otherwise perfect night in Miami, as the Braves prevailed 1-0.

Hand said he was excited to share the news with his mother Barb and sister, Morgan, who happened to be visiting Florida. Hand’s Twitter account burst with messages from around the country. His father Lon and Chaska Mayor Mark Windschitl were among many Minnesotans who made it to Florida for the game.

Hand, 21, is firmly on the fast track, but has so far handled the rapid rise with determination and a willingness to work hard.

“It was three years ago to the day I was drafted,” Hand told Marlins media on Monday. “I didn’t expect it to go this quick, I just tried to go out there and pitch my game. I had a goal in mind.”

See Thursday's print edition for more on Hand's major league debut.
