Grab your umbrella, because today will be the first of several wet and cloudy days in Eastern Carver County. We should see a high in the middle 40's today, with rain moving in by later this afternoon. Off-and-on showers will be the norm for the next several days, along with clouds and some fog, but I have good news: things should brighten again by the weekend! Meanwhile, our warm temps and rainfall will likely bring an end to our long-lived blanket of snow (I have measured snow cover of at least 4" on the ground every day since December 9th - up to a maximum of 20" on several occasions in February) - so you may finally be able to locate those toys that were left in the backyard last fall!

According to the Statistics Department, our high temperature yesterday reached 36 degrees under cloudy skies (after six consecutive days in the 40's), while our low last night dropped to just 32 degrees. The records for today include a high of 66 degrees (set in 2000) and a low of -18 (from back in 1951). Our precipitation records for this date include 10.9" of snow and 0.84" of moisture (both set back in 1918). The average temps for this date represent a sure step toward spring (39 and 20 degrees), as we won't see an average high in the 30's again until November 20th. Our sunrise and sunset will occur today at 6:38 a.m. and 6:13 p.m., respectively. The Minnesota River is continuing to slowly rise, sitting at 8.30 feet this morning.
