Minnesota River Reminders

The National Weather Service has issued Flood Watches and Flood Warnings for most county's along the Minnesota River. I thought it might be helpful to post a few important numbers for us to keep in mind as we watch the river rise over the next week or two.

Flood Categories

Action Stage: 18 ft

Flood Stage: 25 ft

Moderate Flood Stage: 28 ft

Major Flood Stage: 34 ft

Anticipated Impacts

At 25.0 ft, low lying areas and some roads along river begin to flood.

At 27.0 ft, water begins encroaching on Hwy 101 at Shakopee.

At 28.0 ft, Carver County Road 45 north of Jordan will close.

At 28.5 ft, Highway 41 will close south of Chaska.

High Water Records

Please keep in mind, when I gathered numbers for this blog at 6:00 a.m. this morning, the river was sitting at 9.14 feet. By 5:00 this afternoon it had risen to 10.11 feet. How high will it go? Stay tuned...
