Kid Nation - will you watch? by

Has the controversy swirling around Kid Nation been enough to pique your curiosity? The CBS show debuts tonight at 7 p.m.

We'll see if "any publicity is good publicity" rings true tonight. CBS is expecting large viewership for this first episode where a group of kids is given a ghost town in New Mexico and charged with creating their own government and society.

Critics have cried foul, claiming that child labor laws were broken and that the children were unnecessarily endangered. In one case, a girl suffered grease burns on her face while four other children drank something containing bleach.

Is it enough to get you to tune in? If you did tune in, what did you think?

I always thought New Mexico was the "Land of Enchantment." Perhaps "Land of the Unwashed and Insane" didn’t fit on license plates.

Ah, New Mexico. Land of the unwashed and insane. These twerps’ minds will stop growing and they’ll soon be brandishing firearms and driving drunk. Nobody should want to be sheriff in New Mexico. It’s a thankless job that ends too soon in death or disabledness. These little bandits-in-the-making will soon find themselves driving headlong on the wrong side of the road and law into a life of depravity. Great TV

I’m waiting for someone to be named sheriff at which point the kids will learn that "absolute power corrupts absolutely."

When will they introduce "The Conch?"

I’d like blame show’s producers for this mess, but really, what parent would sign their kid up for this?

I watched for about one second and saw Jimmy sitting by himself crying. So the people making the show can just sit there and wait for one of the other kids to find him as he’s having a little 8-year-old breakdown? Too heartless for me.

I don’t know … a bunch of kids duking it out, competing for money, forming their own government. It sounds a lot like C-SPAN.

I caught the second half hour of this and admit that it was intriguing to watch. I loved Jimmy, the 8-year-old boy who quickly realized that he was too young to be on the show (and subsequently left). I’m still cautious of this turning into a Lord of the Flies scenario, but initially at least, it appeared like a strange kind of Survivor summer camp.
