In 1990, Dan Brinkman bought the building site from his parents and the remainder of the cropland in 2001. Lori joined the Brinkman clan when she and Dan marrie...

Saturday Night Live skit set in Shakopee
One of the March 3 Saturday Night Live  skits, with guest star Lindsay Lohan, was set in downtown Shakopee. The skit featured obnoxious Minnesota DJs (one nicknamed "The Moose") surrounded by Twins, Vikings and Timberwolves paraphernalia, broadcasting from a radio station in downtown Shakopee. Someone did a bit of research for the bit, because a few Shakopee schools, including Eagle Creek and Red Oak elementary schools, as well as Shakopee Mid...

Reaching new heights
by Mollee Francisco
For over the last decade, Chaska has eyed the southwest corner of the city for development potential. It’s an area that carries with it the promise to attract both new residents (in the “Heights of Chaska” development) and new jobs (in the adjacent Biotech Center). But growth and development have been slow to come, thanks largely to the economic downturn and subsequent housing slump. Chaska is hopeful that will change soon as city staff review...
Christmas in May homes needed
by Mollee Francisco
Christmas in May is looking for homeowners in need of assistance. Each year on one Saturday in May, hundreds of volunteers assist with renovation projects for homeowners that are either physically or financially unable to do the work themselves. The group usually works on 5-7 homes a year, but so far this year only one household has applied. Past projects have included roofing, interior and exterior painting, yard or garage clean up, landscapi...

Future cloudy for District 112 in the Missota Conference
by Eric Kraushar
When Chaska and Chanhassen joined in a co-op in girls hockey in 2009 - the same year Chanhassen High School opened its doors - the plan was to split the two teams in the near future. Three years into the co-op, producing an overall record of 49-32-1, district officials say a split is at least two more years down the road. Chaska Assistant Principal/Activities Director Troy Stein requested approval from the Missota Conference Athletic Directors...

It has been vacant since the building center closed in May 2008. Once the buildings have been removed (save for the westernmost building), the city will close on the acquisition of the property from owner John Klingelhutz. The purchase price of th...

Purged again: Board members removed at annual meeting
by Mollee Francisco
Four years ago, as members of the city’s largest homeowner’s association gathered for their annual meeting, Mike Sibley made a surprise motion to successfully remove members from the Jonathan Association board. Last Tuesday night, Jason Holt performed a similar coup, the results of which are still being debated. It was a raucous end to a long meeting dogged by procedural questions and confusion. After nearly four hours with little forward prog...
