City's tax rate jumps

Chaska’s city tax rate is set to jump, thanks largely to the state’s elimination of the Market Value Homestead Credit Program. According to Chaska’s 2012 budget documents, next year’s city tax rate is projected to increase 8.39 percent to 25.45 percent. “The tax rate increased just because of that,” said Chaska City Administrator Matt Podhradsky. As the first recipient of Chaska’s Human Rights Award, Jonna Herbstritt has set the bar pretty high for future nominees. On Dec. 2, the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions held its annual meeting and celebrated its 40th anniversary at Oak Ridge Hotel and Conference Center in Chaska.
