Southwest Christian High School has closed on the 29-acre site it has been eyeing for a new school.

The purchase of the parcel at the southeast corner of Highway 212 and Bavaria Road was finalized on Friday, July 22.

Grading has already begun on the south end of the site.

Southwest Christian has been temporarily housed in the old Nordic Track facility on Peavey Road in Chaska's industrial park for more than a decade.

The school currently serves 180 students. The new facility is expected to have a maximum enrollment of 400 in grades 9-12.

School officials hope to have students in the new building for the 2012-2013 school year.

A ground breaking ceremony will be held at the construction site at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16. Attendees are asked to RSVP with the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce.
