Tax hearings begin tonight

Carver County will kick off local tax hearings tonight at the Carver County Government Center in Chaska.

The annual hearings occur prior to local government units completing their 2012 budgets and levies.

County residents received tax notices in the mail last week that included projections for what their property taxes will be next year.

This year is an especially complicated year for understanding property taxes because the 2011 Legislature repealed a Market Value Homestead Credit and replaced it with a new Homestead Market Value Exclusion.

Here is a schedule for upcoming tax hearings, that are also listed on tax statements that were sent to homeowners:

Carver County – 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, Carver County Government Center Board Room, 600 East Fourth Street, Chaska.

City of Carver - 6:30 p.m., Dec. 5, 109 Main Street East, Carver.

City of Chaska -- 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, Chaska City Hall, 1 City Hall Plaza, Chaska.

City of Chanhassen — 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, Chanhassen City Hall, 7700 Market Blvd., Chanhassen.

City of Victoria — 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, Victoria City Hall, 7951 Rose St., Victoria.

School District 112 — 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. District Education Center, 11 Peavey Road, Chaska.
