Highway 101 has re-opened

Highway 101 between Shakopee and Chanhassen has reopened after it was closed due to a one-vehicle crash this morning.

According to Lt. Jason Bartell of the Minnesota State Patrol, five people people were injured in the crash in which an SUV went off the road and struck a tree. Two people were airlifted and three were taken by ambulance to St. Francis Regional Medical Center.

The patrol reported that a child was ejected from the SUV onto the ice of a small pond near a tree that the vehicle struck.

State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said a car lost its wheel, went off the road and crashed at Highway 101 and Flying Cloud Drive around 8:20 a.m.

The vehicle, a 1998 Ford Expedition, was traveling southbound on Highway 101 when it went off the road and struck a tree

The accident happened on the Carver County side of the road.

The State Patrol is investigating the accident, Bartell said.
