Julian Claeys, 75, of Carver, died Friday, March 2, 2012 unexpectedly at his home.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 10, 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church, 215 N. Chestnut St., Belle Plaine, MN, with Father Michael Kaluza and Father Thomas Joseph con-celebrating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass at church. The interment will be later at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Julian was born March 23, 1936 in Winnebago, MN, to Richard and Dorothy (Pool) Claeys, one of five children. He served in the United States Army from 1954 – 1962. On Aug. 14, 1972, Julian married Nancy La Plante. They have one daughter, Jessica. Julian was owner and operator of the Skelly Gas Station in St. Paul, and the Mobil Gas Station in Eden Prairie. He also was employed at Keup Motors, Belle Plaine. He was a volunteer fireman and policeman in Belle Plaine in the mid 1960’s, was a farmer, had his chief boiler license, and retired from Detector Electronics in Bloomington after many years as a facilities manager. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Carver, and Pax Christi Catholic Church in Eden Prairie. He and his wife, Nancy, who died in September of 2011, retired up to their cabin near Grand Rapids. Julian was a loving husband and father, and will be missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Norma; brother-in-law, Roger Drayna.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Claeys and fiancé, Jason Holzemer, of Bloomington; children from first marriage, Marie (Mike) Wells, Jeanette (Mark) Kappes, Kathleen Donaldson, Daniel (Yvette) Claeys, Arlene Stratula, Carol (Doug) Kidwell; 16 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Drayna of St.Paul, Ramona Burr (George Bell), of Renton, WA, Bernard (Lynette) Claeys of Carver; and loving dog, Sophie.

Funeral arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home of Chaska, MN. (952) 448-2137.
